Statement: A myriad of influences and connections through my life have helped in shaping my direction and style. How strong and lasting are those early influences and how uniquely effective are those influences to the individual? Sometimes we tried to ignore and detach but I feel they filter through. Does the word influence have an abstract quality? Are we as artists always driven to express deep from within? I think so! Performance was a strong influence in my early childhood with 10 years of ballet. That was the first influence, AND whatever else it takes to be me? My work is zany, brightly coloured and decorative. I paint on clay! Whatever is needed for the end result! Different clays, colours and embellishments. DOMESTIC-WARE, functional work with edge. Sculptural and non-functional plus exhibition claywork, is all part of my repertoire. Limited edition porcelain jewellery. (You must be out-there to wear!) I welcome the 'artist in residency' program as that allows me to research and investigate another point of view for new work. Sam's work is available at her studio or at the Gympie Regional Gallery Shop. My pottery/ceramic/claywork journey has and is a fascinating strong part of my life. (check out CV) I still remain dedicated and passionate in the world of ceramics. I continue to search for understanding and the meaning of self within our society. With other societal issues, such as water and food are also big questions for me. I feel I have opportunity as a clay artist to do exactly that…. to investigate, research, and express these issues through my claywork.
